Early Life
Kanu was born in Owerri, Nigeria, and began his football journey at Nigerian club Federation Works before moving to Iwuanyanwu Nationale. His performances at youth level quickly drew international attention, and in 1993, he starred for Nigeria in the FIFA U-17 World Championship, helping the team win the tournament.

Club Career
Kanu joined Dutch giants Ajax in 1993, where he won the Eredivisie title three times and was part of the squad that lifted the UEFA Champions League in 1995. He later moved to Inter Milan in 1996 but was sidelined by a serious heart condition. After undergoing successful surgery, he made a remarkable return to football.

In 1999, Kanu signed for Arsenal, where he became a fan favourite for his technical skill, cool demeanor, and knack for scoring important goals. He scored a famous hat-trick against Chelsea in 1999, turning a 2–0 deficit into a 3–2 victory.
